Rainy Days, Nostalgia, & The Best News

What did I say?  Back to the typical rainy Danish summer!! The kiddos and I made us of the infinite amounts of rain that kept us locked inside the house for a few days by getting some school work done and playing our revised version of "Shit Head" over cups of hot cocoa, Haribo, chill, rainy day music playing in the background.

After absolute torrential downpour, the sun finally peaked its head out from the clouds and we all jumped at the chance to see something other than these four walls, heading down to the harbour where our grandparents previously lived and where (in our not-so-humble opinion) the best olden-days Danish ice cream cone can be found!

Benjamin, Lina and I were overwhelmed with nostalgia, reminiscing about all of the great memories we'd had throughout our childhoods in this area.  We'd spent every single summer (and some Christmases) here, wandering around the harbour crab-fishing, walking Felix, going swimming down by the beach, eating hot dogs and ice cream cones as we entertained small crowds with our Heelies, or going sailing on Sirius.

It was definitely not easy for anyone, least of all our grandparents (my grandfather was born in their old house) to sell Zephyr and start anew but the decision was finally made to build a new house on our family land and although it's become home for all, it still feels strange walking down Otte Ruds Vej knowing that we're not going to walk through the gate and up the slightly sloped hill to the front door as we'd done as far back as any of us can remember.

It's nice that we're still so close by (you can see the old and new house from either of their vantage points just across the way) so that we can easily quite literally have a walk down memory lane whenever we're back in Denmark.

Monday rolled around and just as Lina and I were on our way out the door to head into town, I quickly went to check to see if my university had released my exam results yet.  It is with the deepest sense of relief, happiness, and pride that I get to share with you all that after everything that's happened this year, I've passed my second year of law school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am the happiest child right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the biggest weight lifted off of my shoulders knowing that I'm all set to proceed into my third and final year (and with better marks than last year as well!) and don't have to think about that anymore!!! Lina and I enjoyed a celebratory feast of our shared Durum roll and pommes frites with Cocio's, wandering around town for a bit, feeling like the eighth motherf*cking colour of the rainbow!

Benji, Ella and Alyssa spent the day in Copenhagen and by the time we'd polished off dinner, we were all far too tired to go out and celebrate so perhaps tomorrow!! I'm getting too old for this sh*t. I spent the rest of the day finishing off the latest season of How To Make A Murderer and prepping blog posts #hardcore ;)
